Our History

Our History

VLI’s story began in 2007, when Vale’s Executive Board challenged the FCA railroad [Ferrovia Centro-Atlântica] to strengthen itself as an independent logistics company, with greater financial autonomy and a results-driven focus.

The freedom to pursue an ambitious plan and mobilize people around it helped turn a vision into something real: delivering integrated logistics solutions throughout Brazil.

Driven by determination and purpose, that vision took shape—and in 2010, VLI was founded as a wholly owned subsidiary of Vale S.A.

VLI was established with the goal of combining port and rail freight assets to offer efficient integrated logistics services to clients across Brazil’s main productive sectors. In 2011, the company adopted its current name: VLI S.A.

Currently, VLI’s shareholder base includes Vale (29.6%), Brookfield (36.5%), Mitsui (10.0%), FI-FGTS (15.9%), and BNDESPar (8.0%).
